Top 5 reasons to quit smoking

There are over 4.5 million children and teenager smokers in the United States.  However, the American Lung Association reveals that around 70% of teenage smokers wished they never started the habit.

Millions of smokers all over the world have more reasons to quit smoking aside from the fact that it can cause cancer and worsen already existing medical conditions like hypertension.  Here are among the top five reasons to quit smoking.

1. Poisonous chemicals
If you are like the average human being then you do not drink Arsenic and Ammonia nor do you intentionally inhale Carbon Monoxide; unless you are a smoker who could not live without tobacco, including the over 4,000 chemicals found in it. Tobacco contains Carbon Monoxide much like the chemical found in car exhaust, Arsenic which is the same chemical you use to poison rats and Ammonia which is an ingredient in your toilet bowl cleaner.

2. Addiction
Cigarette contains Nicotine which is addicting.  Unless you want to be forever enslaved by this brain-changing drug then that is enough reason for you to quit smoking.  Many smokers will attest to the fact that while smoking causes some kind of a “high” trying to quit smoking can produce withdrawal symptoms that can be described in one word—unpleasant.

3. Impotence Risk
Most guys prefer to keep a macho image through smoking but if you want to avoid becoming impotent then here’s one reason to quit smoking.  A study shows that guys who smoke a pack or more every day are more susceptible to erectile dysfunction.

4. Blindness
Knowing that smoking can result to blindness due to macular degeneration (a condition which is supposed to be prevalent among elderly people) can be a reason to quit smoking. If you want to lower your risk then quitting smoking now would be a good idea.

5. Relationship Failure
No one wants to kiss, much more live with someone who has bad breath and smokers do smell a lot.  Smoking can also cause snoring not only among smokers but among those who are exposed to the smoke.  Smoking and its effects can cause friction in relationships especially between a smoker and a non-smoker.  If you do not want to risk bad relationships (both with your loved one and friends) then it may be reason enough to quit smoking.

There are more reasons to stop smoking both for the younger generation and the elderly.  Young people should quit smoking if they want to grow old.  The elderly should quit smoking if they do not want to hasten mental decline.  But no matter what age, gender or social strata you belong to, if you value your health and your life then it is enough reason to quit smoking.
